Choir Buddies

Dear Lord… my Loving Savior… my dearest sweet Jesus… I was so saddened to hear of the passing of someone who was so dear to me. Someone who made me smile… even laugh. Someone who helped me in a time of tremendous heartache. Someone I loved being choir buddies with. I loved seeing her smile, and witnessing her joy filled spirit.

Sue Bailey
Sue Bailey

Sue was one of the many saints that loved on my little one from three years old, and loved on me as well. Wherever she passed by or sat next to me, she was always singing, smiling, and just glowing with You.

My favorite memory with her was when we were singing in the choir at a time they could tell I was going through some great turmoil. All my life I’ve sang in choirs and school groups, but there is something about singing hymns in a choir when you know what the words mean… when you wholeheartedly believe… a love that is absolutely everything you hope for and more. I never fail to cry when I have to keep singing those words when I am so hurt… or simply think on the love behind those hymns.

During that particular time, we had been practicing choir songs and for a Christmas cantata. I’m not sure how I never knew a problem we had in the choir, other than You, dear Lord, blessed me with not needing to know until… lol.

As we were singing, I went to turn the page and keep singing, but

*GASP!*

The page was missing!

Mentally I was quickly thinking… “Oh no!”  And without missing a beat Miss Sue quickly but ever so discreetly leaned her book over for both of us to see and whispered with a smile, “We have some of those.” Right back to singing as though we had never missed a beat or brought any attention to ourselves. God, You were so awesome through her in that moment!

We would later laugh about it. It would be our personal joke to be told even just by the lift of an eyebrow, but to be ladylike… as Christlike as possible… never actually laughing in service or the choir… so as not to be disrespectful.

I miss being in a choir sometimes when I think of her and the others who were with us. I’ve not been in a choir since then. I’m not even been a member of that church for years. I still visit at times, and the souls there are just as precious as always.

I will miss Sue, Lord. She has been gone a good month or so now. I am happy for her gain. So touched to think of her finally being with You after seeing Your Light in her eyes for so long. I bet she loved her Jesus hug! Hug her once for me and tell I love her. Tell her I’ll see her soon! Both of You! Soon and very soon!

God loves you, Miss Sue!
And so do I! ❤

Jesus Loves Even Me!

I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
❤ Jesus loves even me! ❤

I am so glad that our Father in heav’n
Tells of His love in the Book He has giv’n;
Wonderful things in the Bible I see –
This is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.

CHORUS:
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
❤ Jesus loves even me! ❤

Though I forget Him and wander away,
Still He doth love me wherever I stray;
Back to His dear loving arms would I flee
When I remember that Jesus loves me.

CHORUS:
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
❤ Jesus loves even me! ❤

O if there’s only one song I can sing
When in His beauty I see the great King,
This shall my song in eternity be:
“O what a wonder, that Jesus loves me!”

CHORUS:
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me.
I am so glad that Jesus loves me,
❤ Jesus loves even me! ❤

“NEW” Series, #2 Music Playlist

How lovely You are, Lord, to give us such delights as music! You allowed music through fellow believers, and even dear friends. Coming into Christmas You already had friends sharing music and videos that became favorites. This is new in many ways because for quite a few years now music has just been… music. Even if I happened to love or enjoy something, it was just that moment. I didn’t have the time or desire to feel anything to take with me.  But You have renewed a joy and a comfort in music.

How perfect is the message in Hayley’s song “Called By Love” by Red Letters. You used a dear friend to remind me that when the devil tries to tell me I have no right to listen to or sing with Your music that I am called by love to worship You. I need to worship You to keep my strength up against the one who hates me to have any… especially in You!

You used my dear friend Aney to introduce me to “The True Love of God” by The Church of Almighty God to remind me the “It’s [Your] tender words that water and nourish me to grow up. It’s [Your] stern words that encourage me to stand up again.” That is the truth of Your love. The music lifts my spirit with its light beat.

You surprised me with a new favorite video “You Are More” by Tenth Avenue North. You used Life With Jesus to introduce me to this reminder that I am more than the choices that I have made because I have been remade. It’s not about what I have done, but about what You have done for me. It’s not about how I feel, but what You felt to forgive me, and how You felt to make me loved.

“All The Way in Your Company” by The Church of Almighty God was so cute, and so me and You. The video story and message is a theme song for us. It is a great theme song for our Walking the Walk journey! I would love to be able to run, but as long as I am walking with You, whether on the Parkway, the ball field, running errands, or the days that will leave me in my bed. If I am with You, I am exactly where I need to be!

You used Hayley again to remind me with “He Has Freed Us” by RedLetters that [You] will carry us through every trial in life, that [Your] love is perfect, and [Your] ways are right. [You] have freed us.

And oh how You continue to amaze me through Hayley even more! When she told me of her song “I Choose Life” by RedLetters after she read my post Choose Life as a theme for this year, I was so excitedly in awe of You! You had used Deuteronomy 30:19-20 to inspire her, myself, and so many others at the same time. I will ever be so grateful for Your bringing Hayley into my life, and for allowing me to hear Caralyn’s podcast on A Jew & A Gentile Walk Into a Bar… Mitzvah. I am eagerly awaiting Hayley’s CD. 🙂

I can’t remember how You brought me to “Sleeping At Last” by Saturn. It’s not even Christian music. But You had me pay attention to the message. “How rare and beautiful it truly is that we exist.” It was You and me again… more You speaking to me. So I listen… again and again… and again. ❤

So then You give me “Old Church Choir” by Zach Williams. I LOVE this song. You help me get to a place where I put aside all the noise and voices in my head, and just enjoy You! You let me know that when I do that…“There ain’t nothing gonna steal my joy!” Praise Your Holy name! This is definitely a motivating and strengthening song, all wrapped up in a delightful joy! ❤

Lastly, You used Kristi Ann to just steal my heart again. “Still” by Hillary Scott & The Scott Family. How do I never stop falling in love with You!! You know that all I need is to be still and know that You are parting waters, and moving mountains that I don’t even see. All You need is for me to be still.

So this is the playlist You have given me. I love that You think of me, and whisper my name into someone’s ear. I am grateful You give us music. Thank You for renewing music for me! Thank You for reminding me of the weapon it is against the very one who hates me spending that quality time with You. I look forward to whatever You bring my way. As long as You are there… I’m ready.

“Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.” – Psalm 33:3

“And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.” – Psalm 40:3

My Favorite Blogger
That’s hard because the Lord has blessed me with many wonderful bloggers who are dear friends I try to keep up with reading. The upside to a rich community is fellowship and support. The downside is so many to keep up with and possibly letting someone down, especially when I must pick one. In THIS moment, the Lord blesses me often with Hayley of RedLetters and her music. The Lord is constantly whispering things to us in private, and confirms openly His message to us, marvelously surprising us both. Her song I Choose Life is a perfect example, as at the same time God has given me Choose Life to live by. Both of us were being inspired by Deuteronomy 30:19.

An Elevating Adventure

This weekend my son Anthoni and I were invited to watch a young friend sing a solo while playing her guitar. It had been quite awhile since I went to anything downtown. My anxiety and my health make it challenging just to get through my day. But Belle was singing and playing in front of a large crowd for the first time, and had personally invited us. We wanted to support her. We had known her since she was a little girl.

Many of you may remember me mentioning watching her and her little brother Trey getting baptized this summer in my post on the 30 Posts Challenge: #20 River Baptism.

Anthoni and I made it downtown. It was an adventure we had not done in quite some time. We did not know the place we were going to, so we asked a parking attendant for info. After parking and attempting to follow our given instructions, we ended up going through a hotel entrance I knew (which was the long way around, but saved the day with familiarity.) I was glad I took the time to Google it and study the map. Through the hallway, we found where we should be, and got in line. We even got to speak with Belle and her family for a few minutes before the show.

Time to buy the tickets!

img_20171204_233522-623615893.jpg

and receive our program.

img_20171204_234500-623615893.jpg

After Anthoni got some popcorn, we were able to be seated with Belle’s family. It was nice being able to say hello and catch up a little bit. They were able to tell us about Belle’s school, that the space was actually owned by a church but was being lent out to the school for the program, and what Belle would be doing. We got to looking through our program as they were explaining.

We were so excited to see it… Belle Solo!

img_20171204_234622-836366920.jpg

We had wait until after a couple of skits, a couple of bands, some others singing, dancing, and even several young people taking turns on “silks” (as it read). Silks were basically long draping silks that were being climbed, swung on, hung from, and included using a ring at times… big enough to serve as a tire swing hanging from a tree in the backyard.

Then we saw a familiar face in a beautiful dress coming to the microphone with her guitar in hand. What a lovely sound. Oh How He Loves is what she sang. I wish I had pictures, but her dad was kind enough to give permission to use a video.

I already loved this song, but oh how beautiful she made this song of how much God loves us… that He is jealous for us… in a good way. I was so thankful the Lord allowed me the opportunity, the health, and even the quality time with my son. It was awesome! She was awesome. She performed a lot of different material in the program in addition to her solo, and was able to do each task beautifully.

She was making a beautiful testimony for the Lord. If this is what she sounds like in just getting started, imagine what the Lord has planned for her as she becomes seasoned with her gifts. God will be magnified greatly!

“Being confident of this very thing,
that he which hath begun a good work in you
will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”
– Philippians 1:6 KJV

Thank you, Lord, for letting us make it! Thank you for the night. ❤

Praying for you, Belle! You have become such a lovely young lady! I am confident that God has great things in store for you… for His great pleasure! He loves you! ❤ And so do we!

Commands of Praise

That music…
those drums…
those horns…
those stringed instruments…
those perky voices…
it’s all so loud!
And dancing…
in God’s sanctuary!
It’s such a loud
NOISE!
Yet every one
of those things
are commanded of the Lord
in His psalms.
Even the new songs!
So it’s all that God
COMMANDS.
Lift your holy hands.
Sing! Dance! Shout!
PRAISE YOUR LORD!

My 7 Things About Myself are my current favorite songs.

1. As You know I have been struggling at times with my anxiety, sometimes my depression, and quite often the frustration of physical challenges. This song Even If by MercyMe has ministered to me day & night since You introduced me through a friend.

2. The first song ended with a reference to the hymn It Is Well With My Soul. Everyone should hear a hymn every once in a while… sung to the tune the Lord gave it… and with a choir/congregation. At least once… sing the whole song! This motivates my soul! It Is Well With My Soul by Sovereign Grace Music.

3. Ohhh. *Gasp, and silently waiting for a breath to return!* Dear Lord. How do I find words for what You allow this song to do for my soul? If You had not come! Where would I be? ❤ Love Came For Me by Northland Church. Thank You for coming for me! ❤

4. Joy! LOVELY Lord! This song absolutely lifts me, motivates me, and makes it feel impossible to quit smiling and clapping, tapping my feet. Joy, Lord! Unashamed Joy! Oh the joy of a choir/congregation! And this one! I Love the leading voice! You hear and feel the pure joy! Leaning On The Everlasting Arms by The Church of God.

5. How could I not hear the word LOVELY and not think of Here I Am to Worship by Worship? It sings the very words “You’re altogether LOVELY, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to me.”

6. Oh by the way, Lord. When it comes to Your precious Son Jesus Christ, did I mention that I Love Him? How I worship and adore Him? When I can’t see no way, He makes a way. And did I mention He’s been faithful to every promise He’s ever made me. I Love Him. That’s all I want to say. I praise you for Did I Mention by The Rochesters!

7. Lastly is my all time favorite video. I wish I could fly along with the camera… and You! I like to pretend I can. It’s such a beautiful collection of scenery… Your creative artwork comforts my soul! How Great is Our God by Chris Tomlin.

Habitual Judging

Day before yesterday I awakened to a much needed bit of wisdom and loving instruction. My spirit had been feeling so flat, quite a bit numb. I was feeling so insecure about of lot things, people, and especially myself. Doubts and exhausting concern were weighing so heavily. I opened my devotional to spend some quiet time with my Lord, and to let His Spirit lead mine. Just like He does, He starting speaking to me in a very personal manner.

“COME TO ME AND REST. Give your mind a break from its habitual judging. You form judgments about this situation, that situation, this person, that person, yourself, even the weather – as if judging were your main function in life. But I created you first and foremost to know Me and to live in rich communication with Me. When you become preoccupied with passing judgment, you usurp My role.
Relate to Me as creature to Creator, sheep to Shepherd, subject to King, clay to Potter. Allow Me to have My way in your life. Rather than evaluating My ways with you, accept them thankfully. The intimacy I offer you is not an invitation to act as if you were My equal. Worship Me as King of kings while walking hand in hand with Me down the path of life.”
Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence, by Sarah Young, September 13, 2017 Friday, pg.268

All this worry weighing me down He called habitual judging, and rightly so. For everything I felt insecure with was me judging thoughts, motives, and quite frankly myself. It’s just another way of saying anxiety. I can judge something to seem wrong or offensive. I worry I have done something to cause it, and try to figure out what, and how to fix it. But there are things that just happen with nothing being wrong. And yes there are also things that don’t go right, but doesn’t mean I’ve done anything.

And who I am hurting or offending in doing this… my Savior, my Shepherd, my best friend, the Love of my life, Jesus! I am not giving Him my complete trust as He rightly deserves. He is sovereign and only has my best interest at heart. He loves my friends and family, and the strangers I meet along the way. Whatever order of the day or moment that He is allowing is not for me to question. I am to thank Him for all that I can, trusting Him with what I do not understand. He prefers I seek to KNOW HIM.

This immediately made me think of the song that Hayley and Jon (aka Red Letters) have been gifted to create called Know You.

The song has such a beautiful message with such a gentle tune. The video is stunning as well. I love listening to this song. It comforts my soul, and causes my spirit to just meditate on Him for hours.

My God is telling me to think on Him, as Creator, and what that means for me as His creature… His creation. After all, it is an invitation to intimately know Him more and more. I’ve been blessed to know what this is like, so I want to continue to let Him know how much I love and trust Him with everything in my life. With His help and in His strength I will break the habit of judging everything and everyone (including myself) in attempts to control my life and my world. It is not my world. This is my Father’s world.

THIS IS MY FATHER’S WORLD  – hymn lyrics by Maltbie D. Babcocl
This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done:
Jesus Who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.
There’s much more beauty in this hymn if you wish to enjoy the blessing here..

Self Care Challenge Day: 20: Creativity

Yay! And praise you, Dear Lord. You just keep showering me with blessings in this self-care challenge. Our challenge tonight is to color, and journal on how we felt while coloring. You know I have that coloring journal you led me to get. It was so comforting, and so relaxing, and saved me many a day that I needed to “have my focus elsewhere”. It even brought your Word to life… “When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” Proverbs 16:7 KJV

Well, sadly it has been laying on my bed for a couple of months. Another one of those things I felt guilty to even “waste” my time on. Thank you for including it in the challenge. I will be sure to either listen with my new Lovely A Challenge 18 Playlist, in silence, or both. Just to know I will get a chance already puts a smile on my face and a pep in my step (even though it’s bed time…lol). Yeah right. 😉
