IN JULY OF THIS 2020 YEAR, THE LORD GAVE ME A PROVERBS JOURNAL THAT ALLOWED ME TO READ A CHAPTER EACH DAY, AND THEN NOTE FROM THAT READING. BELOW WILL BE A LINK TO THE CHAPTER FOR EACH DAY, MY NOTES FOR THAT CHAPTER, AND SOME DAYS POETRY THAT HIS WORD INSPIRED ME TO WRITE AS WELL. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL AND STRENGTHENING JOURNEY.

Lord, How many verses are in this 20th chapter of Proverbs that You have used in my life, and that of my son, to lead us, warn us, and amaze us. You taught us how wise it is to have NOTHING to do with drinking, how we sin against our own souls to cause You to be angry, how it is honorable to cease from strife. You taught us not to be a sluggard or else it causes us to beg, and have nothing.

You teach us the value of counsel, and letting YOU determine goodness because our understanding can be flawed. Integrity blesses our children. There is a mighty power in a man’s eyes that scatter evil. Even a child is known by his doings, by doing right or wrong. Loving sleep above the rest You give can bring us poverty, but Your sleep can open our eyes to Your provisions.

Knowledge is more valuable than anything we can buy and brag about. There is a difference between discretion and deceit. There is value in counsel and good advice. We are not to meddle with the talebearer who flatters with his lips, but tells our secrets. Cursing our parents leads us in darkness.

An inheritance gotten in haste will not be a blessing in the end. We are to leave vengeance and justice to You. Our goings are Your doing, we should be careful not to be fooled into thinking we know better. We should be careful not to destroy what is Holy. We will not get it back.

We are wise to run evil off, not give it a place to fester. Anthoni has long loved Your verse 27 of this chapter.

“The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly.”
(verse 27)

I loved watching his yes light up in learning this, even though I was hearing of it for the first time myself. I can only imagine how You must smile to see my eyes light up to realize how much I mean to You. You love us taking delight in being Your children and being loved by You, just as we cherish seeing the same thing in our children. How wonderful it is to love and be loved, to cherish and be cherished, to delight and to be a delight. There is no other love like Your love. There is not other counsel like Your counsel. There is no other wisdom like Your wisdom.

Help us to live our lives soaked up in Your counsel, Your wisdom, Your love, Your correction, Your delight, and Your ways. Help us to be walking in Your loving correction so that we would not be in need of Your stripes to cleanse away evil from the inner parts of our belly. Help us to trust You know the difference, and to know when we need both. Thank You for loving us enough to give us just what we need to protect us from ourselves, and anything that would come between You and us. We love You, Father!
