Obedience Is Trusting You

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder:
and his name shall be called
Wonderful,
Counsellor,
The mighty God,
The everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and peace
there shall be no end, upon the throne of David,
and upon his kingdom, to order it,
and to establish it with judgment and with justice
from henceforth even for ever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
– Isaiah 9:6-7 KJV

You were a child, Jesus… Mary and Joseph’s little son. You had so much that would be upon Your shoulders in the future, but You were young once toovulnerable… at the mercy of others. Your Heavenly Father was wise to seek out Mary, not because she was special but because she was obedient. You made her special, and God said she would be blessed among women because of her obedience.

Joseph was chosen too because God knew that even though Joseph was hurt and felt betrayed by Mary to find out she was pregnant while they were engaged, that Joseph would listen to Him. Joseph was obedient. Yes God came to him in a  dream, but that’s the thing.

If we are in fellowship with God, He will come to us in our deepest hurts to minister to us. Maybe not in a dream (but maybe), maybe not in an actual voice (though anything is possible with God), but we will know when it is God, and we will know it is His message for us. Even if it’s just to say, “I know you are in heartbreaking pain, and I do care.”

God knew Joseph would trust Him if Joseph knew it was God bringing this burden to him. It was a burden that Joseph had no idea would be a risk worth taking. It would save his own soul. Can you imagine being asked of God to take care of His Son?

I have a small inkling as a single mom who raised her only son in the Lord as best as she knew how from day one. While I am no Mary, my greatest desire was giving my son back to the Lord, and obedience to God’s word was all I knew. At first the only bible I had was what other’s taught me. But then God led me through His love letter.

Yes, God knows what I went through. Jesus, You know what I went through. And the Holy Spirit knows. Together You have helped me to raise my child… my son given to me from God (His Father)!

Today, You also emphasized not giving up. You were using the example of Elijah and Elisha. C.T. was preaching on 1 Kings 19, and emphasized verse 4… when Elijah told You “It is enough.” You encouraged him not to give up. If Elijah had given up, he would not have encouraged Elisha. Elisha would not have received the double portion, or seen the horses and chariots of fire (2 Kings 6:17).

**GASP**

I have long loved that passage. You constantly bring those horses and chariots of fire all over my hills in my neighborhood, or wherever I am. How sad if Elisha had not seen them, and You had not written about Elijah and Elisha for me! I never want to stop seeing them! 😦

You have laid on my heart to take with me today the hymn..

Only Trust Him
hymn lyrics by John H. Stockton

Come, every soul by sin oppressed,
there’s mercy with the Lord,
and He will surely give you rest
by trusting in His word.

CHORUS
Only trust Him, only trust Him,
only trust Him now;
He will save you, He will save you.
He will save you now.

For Jesus shed His precious blood
rich blessings to bestow;
plunge now into the crimson flood
that washes white as snow.

CHORUS

Yes, Jesus is the truth, the way,
that leads you into rest;
believe in Him without delay,
and you are fully blest.

CHORUS

Come, then, and join this holy band,
and on to glory go,
to dwell in that celestial land
where joys immortal flow.

CHORUS

I may often wonder how You could ever use me, even when You lay certain hurting ones on my mind, but regardless of my feeling inadequate, You WILL use whom You will use. I don’t want to keep them from seeing the horses and chariots of fire!
