“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: that thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” – Deuteronomy 30:19-20 KJV
This is the verse you have given me, Lord, for this year ahead. Weeks ago I began asking if there was anything you wanted me to focus on, making sure to be careful not to make promises I cannot keep or that you were not asking of me. You lovingly taught me the value of not making resolutions, and the peace of following you instead of the world the first year you led me not to make one, and not to let the world make me feeling guilty.
You brought to mind things that happened through the year, and how this battle for my health was following your instruction to fight! At least you would know I was trying to do all you asked of me. Even if I lost the fight… I would go down obeying. Now you are saying CHOOSE LIFE. You used Caralyn’s broadcast to confirm it with Deuteronomy 30:19, and explained why with verse 20.
Choose Life… not just to live… but to love you… to obey you… to cleave to you… because YOU are my life… and the length of my days.
So…. by your grace… in your strength… according to your will… I will choose to live…
to love… to obey… to cleave… to my life… which is all you!
Some things you have encouraged me to use as a source of strength and Motivation are:
- Writing down the bible word for word as you lead.
(I was so motivated I already began in December.) - Continue to fight for my health. (Philippians 4:13)
- Lovely A’s Walking the Walk, and blogging it as you give it.
- Blogging (both blogs)
- Writing poetry
- Color Therapy (You gave me plenty of materials for Christmas!)
- Music (You use Hayley to make it enjoyable! ❤ )
None of these are in specific order. And there may be some I have forgotten, or that you will add along the way. But whatever the journey has ahead you have assured me…
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.” – Psalm 32:8 KJV
Gail, this is absolutely beautiful. I have a song recorded called ‘I choose life’. I’ll see if I can upload it today as the lyrics are so in fitting with what you’ve written here.
I’m constantly amazed at how the Holy Spirit speaks to His children through different ways but still the same message.
Thank you for the love and support you have shown us for our worship ministry. You are such a blessing to me personally.
Love Hayley ❤️

PTL, Hayley! More affirmation! I look forward to hearing it. He IS absolutely amazing in how He speaks, and I love how He brings glory to His whispers by bringing them together openly in His own way… even through your music! He gave the gift and we simply accepted and unwrapped. I love the surprises He delights us with! ❤

Thank you, Sayer, for such kind and encouraging words. I praise the Lord for whatever testimony He allows, but it is surely all Him that you see. Lord willing, whatever He whispers, I will surely pen. (Maybe with a quill some day 😉 ). I love how He always allows me be first to read whatever He gives. ❤
I pray your troubles are behind you, and that your year ahead is all that God hopes for you, which is surely blessings and all of His love.
PS… I have an email coming your way.

Yes! I was reading these verses on New Year’s Eve as I was thinking of the year to come! I did make resolutions this year. They are centered on choosing life, focusing on my physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. I’m tired of not being able to enjoy the abundant life Jesus offers because I’m not taking care of myself. It’s time for some changes. BUT I have no intention of overwhelming myself. I am going to work little by little, step by step to create good habits all around. I know I’ll cave to my desires for chocolate or soda in a day or two. I know I’ll get lazy and skim through a devotional rather than digging deep. I know I’ll choose to veg out in front of the TV one night instead of spending time with my thoughts and just resting but… I also know I get a fresh start every day as I am afforded God’s new and generous mercies. It took me a while to create my bad habits. It’s going to take a while to replace them with good ones. Hmmm.. I may have gotten a bit off track with my response here! 😉 The point is I’m so thankful you posted about these verses! We have the opportunity to choose life with each moment of each new day! It’s OUR choice! God is so good!

That is so awesome, Karen! That is so God! I love how He has so many of us thinking the same thing in His private time with each of us, and then openly affirming one another as well!
Being honest with yourself and God is key to everything! God has given you a secret wisdom many are still searching for. Praise God, you know to trust His wisdom and His strength… and His beautiful and never ending grace! Isn’t He just wonderful! ❤ So glad you shared with me! Me and God have faith in you! ❤

I love this post, Gail! I prayed the same prayer when I discovered my melanoma and facing a harsh treatment. I prayed the same prayer half way through the treatment, saying that, God, you showed me to go this way, now please carry me through!
May God’s peace and healing be with you! Miriam

I wrote 9 posts about my melanoma treatment. This is one of them. The prayer I refered to must be in the previous posts.

Hi, Gail… Hayley directed me here! I love your perspective and your commitment to trusting Abba in every area of your life. You mentioned health issues. I am a cancer survivor…it was a serious case. I dunno if this is what you are facing, but if so and if I can encourage you on your journey, I’m here. I’m going to pray for you as soon as I hit the “post comment” button. God bless you greatly!

Hi, Lynn. That was so thoughtful of Hayley! That’s our God… whispering our names in the ears of others! 🙂 I praise the Lord that all tests looking for cancer have been good so far. I am sorry you have had to fight that ugly monster. It’s a very cruel and ruthless foe. Unfortunately I have had several family and friends lose their battle to cancer. But by God’s amazing grace, I have just as many that have survived it! I praise the Lord you are a survivor!
Thank you for the open invitation to talk. I’ll have to come visiting your site to encourage you as well! God loves you! ❤
